Community
Born in the heart of quarantine, the Community Garden Art Collective (CGAC) was co-founded by myself, Dana Filatov, and Sarah Juliet Nadler with a bold vision: to bring the spirit of Toronto’s art community into the digital space. What started as an idea to bridge physical distance grew into a vibrant and inclusive platform that connected artists, enthusiasts, and buyers over four inspiring years. Later in our journey, Danny Cardoso joined the collective, infusing it with fresh energy and perspective as we expanded our mission.
Mission Statement
At CGAC, we encouraged artistic expression and were committed to uplifting those who have made art their livelihood. Our mission was to promote emerging practices, foster local collaborations, and function as a digital platform for exhibitions, publications, and events. Rooted in community, CGAC served as a gathering place for artists, enthusiasts, and buyers, offering workshops, interviews, and reviews to make art more accessible and to help young artists navigate Toronto’s art scene.

What We Built
CGAC nurtured a passionate community of artists, thinkers, and creators, connecting diverse voices from across Toronto and beyond. We hosted events and workshops designed to inspire and educate, ranging from hands-on sessions to curated gallery gatherings. Our online presence provided a virtual home for creatives to share, learn, and grow. Collaborations with local artists, galleries, and organizations helped amplify emerging talent and create meaningful opportunities for artistic growth.

My Role
As a co-founder, I collaborated with Dana Filatov and Sarah Juliet Nadler to shape the vision, mission, and identity of CGAC. I designed the collective’s UX/UI and led most of its graphic design projects, ensuring a cohesive and engaging visual identity across all platforms. I contributed to building a welcoming space for creatives to connect, both online and in person. I facilitated workshops, curated events, and managed digital outreach through social media, ensuring CGAC remained a trusted and accessible platform for our community. Additionally, I fostered partnerships within Toronto’s art scene, helping to elevate local talent and support emerging artists.
Impact
CGAC became a trusted name in Toronto’s art community, leaving a legacy of collaboration and growth. We supported emerging artists in finding their voices and audiences, facilitated moments of shared inspiration, and created lasting connections. Through our efforts, we made local and emerging art more accessible to the public while strengthening relationships within the artistic community.
Current Status
After four wonderful years, CGAC is on an extended hiatus as we, the co-founders, pursue new projects within our individual practices. While the collective is currently paused, the vibrant community and connections we built continue to thrive.
